The History behind the design
In 1775, Benjamin Franklin wrote a short essay explaining why the rattlesnake was the right symbol for the American colonies.
She doesn't attack without cause. She doesn't pursue an enemy who retreats. She doesn't strike without first giving warning. But once provoked, once the decision is made, there is no hesitation and no half measures.
Franklin saw something in the rattlesnake that he recognized in the men around him. A natural disposition toward peace. A hard limit that, once crossed, produced consequences the aggressor had been warned about.
The Gadsden flag wasn't a threat. It was a statement of character. The men who carried it weren't looking for a fight. They had simply decided, quietly and without drama, that there were things worth defending and a line that would not be moved.
That disposition didn't die in 1775. It just got quieter.
