The History behind the design

They chose the eagle deliberately. Not for its beauty. Not for its size. Because of what it does, it flies alone, it sees farther than anything else in the sky, and it doesn't flock. In 1782, when the founders selected the bald eagle as the symbol of the new republic, they weren't choosing a mascot. They were making a statement about the kind of nation they intended to build and the kind of men they expected to build it.

The motto beneath the eagle was equally intentional. E Pluribus Unum, out of many, one. Thirteen colonies with different economies, different cultures, different interests, different grievances, bound together by a single idea that mattered more than any of their differences. The idea that free men, governing themselves, could build something that had never existed before.

They were right. But they were also clear-eyed about what it would cost. The republic they built wasn't designed to run itself. It was designed to be maintained, by men who understood what they had inherited and took seriously the obligation to pass it on intact.

That standard hasn't changed. The eagle still flies. The question is whether the men beneath it still understand what it means.

This shirt is for the ones who do.

E Pluribus Unum. Out of many, one.
