The History behind the design
The Lion Rampant has roared from Scottish banners since the 12th century. It flew over Bannockburn. It flew over Flodden. It flew over every highland charge and every last stand on ground that refused to yield.
It is not a symbol of a nation that was always victorious. It is the symbol of a nation that was never finished.
The Scots faced Rome and made them build a wall. They faced English domination for centuries and produced Wallace, Bruce, and a Declaration of Arbroath that Thomas Jefferson read before he wrote his own. They built a diaspora that shaped the American founding, the Canadian wilderness, and the Australian frontier.
Nec Timore Nec Favore. Neither by fear nor by favor.
The motto says everything about who these men were and what they passed down.
If this blood runs in you, you already know what it means to carry something hard and cold and uncompromising into the world.
The Lion Rampant is just the reminder.
