In the twelfth century, a group of knights took a vow that separated them from every other fighting force in history. They were among the most feared warriors of the medieval world, disciplined, relentless, and effective in ways that confounded their enemies for nearly two centuries. But the vow wasn't about fighting. It was about who got the credit.
Non Nobis Domine. Not unto us, O Lord. Not unto us, but to your name give glory.
The Knights Templar fought without seeking recognition. They served without seeking reward. They died without seeking monuments. In an era when knights rode into battle with their heraldry displayed for all to see, when honor and glory were measured by what other men said about you, the Templars made a different choice. They fought for something larger than their own reputation. The glory wasn't theirs to keep.
